Objectives
Maintain navigable waterways with access to Lake Tahoe
Reduce nutrient levels in the Keys Lagoons and Lake Tallac
Develop a Circulation and Filtration System to materially improve water quality as it relates to aesthetics, algae control, collection of AIP fragments
Reduce non-point source nutrient and pullutant inputs to Lake Tallac and the Keys Lagoons
Contribute to the Preservation of Lake Tahoe and its ecosystem
Tahoe Keys and Lake Tahoe Flow Model
This model, developed by Environmental Science Associates (ESA), represents both the surface and groundwater natural flow between the Tahoe Keys, Lake Tahoe, Lake Tallac, Pope Marsh and Upper Truckee Marsh. The current stagnant environment supports the growth of aquatic invasive plants due to nutrient dense, shallow, and warm waters. Reinstating the circulation system is an essential tool to keep water moving within the Keys lagoons restoring the aesthetic and recreational benefits to the homeowners.
City Development Impacts
The Pope Beach development built a road across the front of the marsh. This barrier distrupted the natural flow of water and the filtration of Pope Marsh.
The Keys development hydrologically isolated Pope Marsh from the Upper Truckee River.
